Here's How to Beat the Heat!

During summer months, employees may work in environments where they’re exposed to excessive heat. This exposure can lead to serious heat-related illnesses that occur when the body is no longer able to cool itself through sweating. By knowing the signs and symptoms associated with these illnesses and practicing preventative measures, you can reduce the risk of heat-related health problems.
Know the Symptoms:
-- Headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting.
-- Weakness and moist skin.
-- Mood changes such as irritability or confusion.
--Upset stomach, thirst, or vomiting.
Protect Yourself:
-- Drink plenty of fluids.
-- Maintain normal salt intake.
-- Wear light-colored clothing.
-- Avoid drinks with caffeine.
-- Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
The Postal Service is committed to ensuring that all employees work as safely as possible.
Remember the heat equation:
High Temperature + High Humidity + Physical Work = Potential Heat Illness
Beat the heat!

Up to $5,000 Insurance Now Available at APC

Customers now can get the same amount of insurance whether they ship a package at a Post Office, Automated Postal Center (APC) or online at usps.com.
The Postal Service is increasing the insurance indemnity available at APCs from $500 to $5,000 for items that are lost, damaged, or have missing contents. This matches the amount available when a customer purchases insurance at a retail counter or online using Click-N-Ship.
Postal insurance only can be purchased from one source per item. For example, insurance purchased online cannot be combined with insurance purchased from a retail associate or at an APC.

National PCC Day is Coming to Hollywood

It's that time of year again. National Postal Customer Council Day is Wednesday, September 21, and the Miami-Dade PCC and the PCC of Broward County are joining together at Dave & Busters located at 3000 Oakwood Blvd in Hollywood FL.

Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe will host a national satellite broadcast from Tampa FL to postal customers and partners across the country. The Hollywood event also will feature a variety of presentations ranging from QR Codes to ebay/USPS partnerships to Inspection Service updates.

National PCC Day is the premier Fall event for the mailing industry. Throughout the year, the PCC provides a forum for mailers to discuss and resolve mailing issues with local Postmasters and also serves as an avenue for its members to exchange ideas and suggestions on new postal products and services.

In addition to presentations, round table discussions, and PCC updates, Hollywood's event will include lunch. Event participation is $35 per person. To register, go to www.miamipcc.com.

BSS Locks In Revenue with Real Estate Firm

Making Places. Better.

That’s the mission of Woolbright Development, Inc., a diversified real estate services company specializing in the acquisition, redevelopment, leasing, management and disposition of shopping center projects throughout Florida. Based in Boca Raton, this business focuses on providing advisory, consulting and asset management services to institutional investors and individual property owners.

South Florida District also has a mission: Generate new revenue. ASAP.

Business Solutions Specialist Maria Artiz appraised the value of EDDM and sent a letter to Miramar Florida restaurants. A restaurant in a local shopping center referred Artiz to Woolbright Development, Inc. Artiz met with Woolbright’s Marketing and Business Development team and scheduled an EDDM presentation with Hollywood Postmaster Scott Bower to secure the sale.

The company expressed interest in EDDM to increase store traffic and to help grow the business for their tenants to show how they also could utilize direct mail to grow their individual business. The first mailing brought $25,000 in postal revenue and after assessing the results from the EDDM mailing, Woolbright Development, Inc. appears to be locked in.

“The EDDM program allowed us to forego the purchase of a mailing list and to avoid the use of a mailing house --- and all of the costs that go along with it,” said Laura Biller, Marketing Manager, Woolbright Development, Inc. “This is the easiest, least expensive direct mail option I have found yet. It’s perfect for many of the small businesses throughout our shopping centers!”
