The South Florida District Emergency Management Team continues to track
Hurricane Sandy through National
Hurricane Center
Advisories. Under the leadership of
District Manager Jeffrey Becker,
the EMT consists of senior postal managers and Postal Inspectors who meet
regularly to
review current weather conditions and to make operational decisions for the
district. Their priority is the safety
and well being of all employees.
Hurricane Sandy is
approaching the Central Bahamas as a Category
2 storm with maximum sustained winds at 105 mph. Sandy
is traveling north at 20 mph.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Florida East Coast from Ocean Reef to Fla gler Beach , and Lake
O k e e c h o b e e . A tropical storm warning means that tropical
storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area.
A tropical storm watch is in
effect from the Florida East Coast from north
of Fla gler
Beach to Fernandina Beach ,
the Florida Upper Keys from Ocean Reef to
Craig Key, and Florida Bay. A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible
within the watch area.
Employees are encouraged to listen to local weather reports
for updates on Hurricane Sandy.
At this time, all postal operations are normal throughout
the South Florida District. Employees
