The Postal Service marked the start of the Lunar New Year by issuing a Year
of the Ram stamp in San Francisco.
The stamp depicts a wooden tray — known as a chuen-hop or Tray of
Togetherness — filled with holiday sweets. This is the eighth of 12 stamps in
the Postal Service’s Celebrating
Lunar New Year series, which will continue through 2019.
The Lunar New Year, one of the most important holidays of the year for many
Asian communities around the world, is celebrated primarily by people of
Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tibetan and Mongolian heritage.
