It’s not every day that Postmaster General Megan Brennan
writes to an employee. But when you come to the aid of a crying five-year-old
who is lost, it’s important to recognize an employee for a heroic action.
The PMG wrote:
“I want to commend your heroic actions and selfless
display of civic duty. You deserve the highest level of admiration for coming
to the aid of a little girl who was dropped off at the wrong bus stop. I am
proud of the sound judgment and compassion you showed in keeping her calm and
staying with her until a family member arrived. Thank you for the way you
handled this emergency and for being the eyes and ears of your community.”
The child’s grandmother also praised Herrera:
“The substitute bus driver dropped off my granddaughter,
Layla, at the wrong location. Layla didn’t have a clue where she was, but
recognized the letter carrier and ran to him. I don’t know what would have
happened that day, if he had not been there to help her. Thank you from our
entire family!”
