The Postal Service is reminding employees of the importance of staying safe and cool throughout the summer season.
You should stay hydrated before, during and after work, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Research shows you should drink at least 8 ounces of water every 20
minutes to stay hydrated.
Dressing appropriately for weather conditions is critical for staying healthy. On warm days, make sure to wear lightly colored, loose fitting, breathable clothing to keep body temperatures down.
Stay out of direct sunlight if possible, apply sunscreen of at least Sun
Protection Factor 15 and use shaded areas to stay cool.
Know the signs of heat stress, including:
- Hot, dry skin or profuse sweating
- Headaches
- Confusion or dizziness
- Nausea
- Muscle cramps
