It's Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Throughout October, USPS celebrates National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Whether you are on or off the clock, cybersecurity is our shared responsibility --- it’s up to you to help ensure the safety of USPS data, networks, and equipment, and your personal information. CyberSafe at USPS offers the following tips for home and work:

Stay vigilant against phishing attempts. Be a SHARK and catch phishing attacks. Remember to (S) slow down, (H) hover, (A) ask questions, (R) reach out, and (K) keep sensitive information private. If in doubt, report suspicious emails by selecting using the “Report to CyberSafe” button in the Outlook toolbar (access these instructions to obtain the button if you do not have it).

Create Strong Passwords: When setting your password, choose a passphrase, a unique set of words that serves as your password (e.g. “B3_Cyb3rS*f3”). Apply a unique identifier to differentiate passwords, and don’t repeat passwords across separate accounts.

Separate for Security: If you need to charge a device, consider using a wall outlet to keep USPS networks safe. Never plug any personal or work devices into USPS computers, networks, or equipment.

Stay CyberSafe at Home: Protect your personal information and ensure your personal devices, information, and networks remain cybersafe; set strong and unique passwords, use secure networks, and protect your finances.

Be Cyber Smart on the Road: When traveling abroad for personal travel, do not bring USPS-issued electronic devices. If you are traveling internationally for USPS business, request authorization for use of USPS electronic devices and international VPN. Always keep your electronic devices with you, or secure them in a safe when not in use. Avoid public WiFi hotspots and charging station USB ports.

Small actions like updating your password and reading emails carefully could save us from a devastating attack. Incorporate these best practices into your regular routine to keep us cybersafe!
