Mail volume sent to troops in Afghanistan set new yearly and holiday records, according to the Military Postal Service. Since January 2010, more than 54.5 million pounds of mail was sent to Afghanistan. In 2009, troops received 34.4 million pounds and in 2008, service members got 19.2 million pounds. From November 1 to December 24, the total amount of U.S. holiday mail delivered throughout Afghanistan was 12.6 million pounds, nearly double the amount of mail sent to troops in 2009.
