Planet Stamps: Out of this World!

An out of this world experience is coming to the African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARL&CC) in Fort Lauderdale later this month. The grand opening on Monday, July 25, will feature Fort Lauderdale Postmaster David Guiney who will dedicate an enlargement of the 16 "View Our Planets" stamps at 6 p.m.

The AARL&CC. 2650 Sistrunk Blvd, has been awarded Discover Space: A Cosmic Journey, a traveling exhibit from the American Library Association. It covers topics such as the formation of planetary systems, asteroids and comets, Mars exploration, and solar storms and their impacts on Earth. The AARLCC is one of only eight sites nationwide to host the exhibit, which will be on display there from July 20 through October 14, 2016.

All events are free and open to the public.

Discover Space: A Cosmic Journey - Teacher Open House Week! Educators are invited to visit the exhibit on their own to discover ideas of ways to use the exhibit in their class and to determine how to prepare for their class visit. STAR-NET created a special document for teachers that explains all the hands-on kiosks and offers suggestions for topics of discussion as well as lesson plans. Begins July 20.
