The
new prices, if approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC), include a
2-cent increase in the price of a First-Class Mail Forever stamp.
This
would return the price to 49 cents, the price in effect before the Postal
Service was mandated to reduce prices by the PRC as part of the exigent surcharge removal.
Stamp
prices last increased in January 2014.
Prices
have stayed consistent with the average annual rate of inflation since USPS was
formed in 1971.
The
Postal Service’s Oct. 12 filing with the PRC doesn’t include price changes for
postcards, letters mailed to international destinations or additional ounces
for letters.
Pricing
for Standard Mail, Periodicals, Package Services and Extra Services also will
be adjusted next year. The adjusted prices can be found on the PRC's site. The PRC will review the price changes before they are scheduled to take effect Jan. 22.
The filing does doesn’t affect USPS shipping products and services.
