Celebrating Our Veterans

Fort Lauderdale Postmaster David Guiney (second row, left) thanked veterans who work at the Fort Lauderdale Main Office and the South Florida District Office during a special presentation in their honor.

“For more than two centuries, the Postal Service has been one of America’s largest employers of veterans.  Today, I am proud to say we have more than 100,000 veterans in our ranks,” said Guiney. “When your country asked for your help, you stepped up and answered the call to duty. You joined the nation’s elite one percent of the population who wear the uniform. You performed a difficult, sometimes thankless, job, in sometimes harsh and dangerous conditions --- all to protect our nation and the values we hold so dear.  You honor us with your presence.  Thank you.”

During the presentation, Guiney also referenced an excerpt from John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address on January 20, 1961:

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and the success of liberty.  This we pledge and more.”
