Fly the U.S. Flag at Half-Staff Today
Peace
Officers Memorial Day and Police Week is an observance that pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have
died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty. The formal memorial is on
May 15, and Police Week is the calendar week in which the memorial falls.
On Wednesday, May 15, Postal
Service facilities are required to fly the U.S. flag at half-staff.
To fly the flag at
half-staff, hoist the flag to the peak for an instant and then lower it to the
half-staff position. The flag should be raised to the peak again before it’s
lowered for the day.
