LaConnia Watkins Makes History as New Boynton Beach Postmaster

LaConnia Watkins has made history as the first African-American female to be promoted to Postmaster, Boynton Beach. As the 16th Postmaster, Watkins is responsible for overall postal operations in the third largest city in Palm Beach County.

Watkins began her postal career as a Letter Carrier in Miami’s Norland Branch in 1986. The following year, she transferred as a Letter Carrier to the Boca Raton Main Office, and then in 1992, entered the managerial ranks at the Deerfield Beach Post Office. 


Watkins advanced into positions of increased authority, including Manager, Customer Services at the Boca Raton Main Office and the West Boca Carrier Annex. She also served as Officer In Charge, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Pahokee, Palm Beach, and Port St. Lucie. Prior to becoming Postmaster, Boynton Beach, Watkins was Postmaster, Jupiter, the 11th individual and first African-American female to attain that position.
