Inspector Collects $188,812 for USPS
Postal Inspector J. Taylor Fernandez (center) presenting South Florida District Finance Manager Scott Ackman (left) and Hollywood Postmaster Scott Bower (right) with a final check for $26,000 as a result of her investigation against FWM Laboratories and UPS Mail Innovations. In late 2009, Hollywood Postmaster Scott Bower contacted Inspector J. Taylor Fernandez requesting assistance in resolving an issue whereby FWM Laboratories refused his numerous requests to pay for its “Return Service Requested” endorsed parcels. Fernandez’s investigation determined UPS Mail Innovations was entering these parcels into the mailstream on behalf of its client, FWM Laboratories. But neither company was willing to accept responsibility for the payment of postage owed to the U.S. Postal Service. Through the joint efforts of Postal Inspectors, South Florida District personnel, and the USPS Law Department, the USPS was able to collect payments totaling $188,812 owed for these parcels from both companies. Revenue Protection is important to everyone. If you know of any revenue fraud-related matters, please contact Miami Revenue Investigations Inspectors J. Taylor Fernandez or Joanne Winston at 954-436-7200 or you may reach Revenue Investigations Team Leader Jim Stodghill at 813-281-5221. Special Contributors: Inspectors Blanca Alvarez, J. Taylor Fernandez, and Jim Stodghill
