The
U.S. State Department has announced the passport acceptance fee will soon
increase from $25 to $35.
Beginning
Monday, April 2, USPS passport acceptance facilities should collect the new
acceptance fee. Other fees for passport application services will remain the
same. The $10 acceptance fee increase only applies to U.S. passport applicants who use the DS-11 form, U.S. Passport Application. This includes:
· First-time U.S. passport applicants
· Applicants who are 16 years and
younger
· Applicants whose previous U.S.
passport was issued when they were under age 16
· Applicants whose previous U.S.
passport was lost, stolen or damaged
· Applicants whose previous U.S.
passport was issued more than 15 years ago
The
$10 fee increase does not apply to adults eligible to renew their U.S. passport
by mail using the DS-82 form. Renewal customers can mail their application and
supporting documentation to the State Department and should not apply at a
passport acceptance facility or pay the acceptance fee.The State Department announced the increase last week after the U.S. Office of Management and Budget approved the new fee.
