For the week of
Veterans Day, South Florida District Manager Jeffery Taylor asked that all
managers and supervisors gather their employees and recognize those who have
served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Service men and women were encouraged to share
military stories with their coworkers. Taylor sent the following message
throughout the district:
“This Veterans Day, let’s not take our veterans
or our freedom for granted. It is
appropriate for us to take time out of our day to say “thank you” for their
service — to be grateful to them for their willingness to do whatever necessary
to preserve our way of life at home and at work.
As you may know, the Postal Service is second
only to the U.S. Department of Defense in the number of veterans in the
workforce.
I’m asking you to join me in saluting the
service men and women in our workforce. I’m asking that you select a date
during the week of November 8 to gather all your employees (veteran and
non-veteran) and recognize the brave men and women who have, or continue to
serve, in the U.S. Armed Forces.
It is so easy for us to get caught up in our
daily lives with all our interests and busy schedules that we can take things
for granted. When we’re healthy, we may take our good health for
granted. Relationships that are smooth and fulfilling can be taken for
granted. And because we enjoy freedom in this country, we can take that
for granted, too. But there has been a lot of sacrifice and bloodshed to
earn and keep the freedoms we too often undervalue. We owe a debt of
gratitude to those who have fought and continue doing so to secure our way of
life.”
