On Saturday, November 16, the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Miami hosted its fifth annual “Community Salute to Our Military” event. Over 3,000 veterans, family members and friends, along with current service men and women,  attended festivities and a luncheon.

Miami Postmaster Steve Kirkland held a special dedication featuring the Purple Heart Medal stamp. Among the participants were U.S. Air Force World War II Veteran Lieutenant Glenn Bushaman and Purple Heart recipient U.S. Army Logistics Manager Nolan Rojas.

The U.S. Postal Service Human Resources Department, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, including Postal Police Officers, also participated.  Following the dedication, participants shared information on employment opportunities.

Currently, veterans make up 20 percent of the postal workforce. Manager, Human Resources Tammy Deutsch, along with Postal Inspectors and Postal Police Officers participate in many community job fairs to inform attendees of job opportunities and assist them in navigating the online application process.
