It’s said there is no greater gift one can give than the gift of life.
And Chino Hills, CA, Rural Carrier Associate Yvonne Elizarraras has joined the dozens of other postal employees who have answered the call. She donated bone marrow to a 10-year-old boy she has never met in the hopes it will help rescue him from acute lymphoid leukemia.
When Elizarraras signed up to be a potential marrow donor with the Postal Service’s “Delivering the Gift of Life Campaign,” she thought the odds were slim she would be a match. Since USPS began its affiliation with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), more than 50,000 postal employees and their family members have joined the Be The Match Registry, operated by the NMDP, but only 80 have been a match for a recipient.
