Fannie Santamaria, well known for her outstanding work ethic at the Fort Lauderdale Annex, always remembers to wear a smile as part of her professional image. But the letter carrier never realized that dedication, a positive attitude, and an infectious smile would lead to a video production on postal products and services.
Santamaria became an overnight star in a video promoting the partnership between the Postal Service and Office Depot, the first national retailer to become an Approved Postal Provider. Santamaria’s starring role is that of a letter carrier (a role she knows very well) picking up Priority Mail packages from a local Office Depot. Television audiences have seen the video on news broadcasts aired across the nation.
“It was a great honor to represent the Postal Service, especially our letter carriers,” Santamaria said. “And our partnership with Office Depot is a great opportunity to grow our business.”
Back in 1986, three business partners envisioned Office Depot to be a warehouse-style store where customers could purchase brand name office products in bulk at discounted prices. The company opened its first store in Lauderdale Lakes FL.
As an Approved Postal Shipper, the office supply chain based in Boca Raton FL now is offering postal shipping and mailing products --- Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes and envelopes, Priority Mail service, Express Mail service, Parcel Post, stamps, Delivery Confirmation and Signature Confirmation --- at 1,083 Office Depot stores, including 47 South Florida locations.
The partnership is one more example of how the Postal Service is adjusting products and services to best accommodate the changing needs of its customers, while finding creative solutions to generate much needed revenue.

“Many of our customers appreciate the convenience of shipping from Office Depot,” said DeJesus. “The Priority Mail Flat Rate is one of the best shipping options. Customers pay one, low rate to any state without worrying about weighing the package — and there are no surcharges.”
