Cyber Monday, December 1, was the biggest online spending
day ever, according to a report
by comScore.
The research firm found online spending exceeded $2
billion for the first time that day, up 17 percent over last year. Adobe reported
total online sales of $2.65 billion.
Mobile purchases comprised more than 21 percent of
orders, up from about 16 percent last year, according to e-commerce tracking
site Custora.
Online shopping generally drives big increases in
shipping, and the trend is expected to continue this year. USPS expects
to deliver between 450 million and 470 million packages during the holidays, up
roughly 12 percent from last year.
The Postal Service has shifted to a 7-day holiday delivery schedule to
accommodate the surge in
volume.
