When a
law enforcement officer refers to a BOLO, odds are it doesn't mean a
southwestern-style tie. BOLO is an acronym for the phrase "be on the
look out."
And
that’s just what Fort Pierce Post Office employees did --- be on the look
out. A BOLO was issued for two individuals who were wanted for committing
fraudulent debit card transactions
Both Sales and Services
Associates Shaniece Freeman-Chavis and Iris Hernandez recognized the suspects
and informed Supervisor, Customer Services Mary Lou Beharry, who in turn,
notified Fort Pierce Postmaster Dawn Hutson. Hutson contacted the
Inspection Service and Administrative Assistant Jacqueline Long contacted local
law enforcement. Supervisor, Customer Services Carl Clemons obtained vehicle
information and the suspects’ descriptions.
Saint Lucie
County Sherriff’s Officers and Postal Inspectors credit Fort Pierce
employees for their attentiveness and quick action, which led to the arrest of
one suspect. The second suspect fled before law enforcement arrived on the
scene.
To help prevent fraudulent transactions, Postal Inspectors remind Sales and Services Associates of the importance of checking the last four numbers of the debit card against the RSS receipt.
