Oprah to Salute Letter Carriers on Nov. 24

The Oprah Winfrey Show will salute five letter carriers Tuesday for their acts of bravery. The episode, “Oprah and People Magazine Salute Headline-Making Heroes,” pays tribute to everyday community heroes and will include the following carriers on its November 24th broadcast:

Alan Girard of Oakland CA, who along with four other carriers rescued 100 residents from a burning apartment building while on his route.
Walter Hayes of St. Louis MO, who rescued a six-year-old boy hit by a car, sheltering him from shock until paramedics arrived.
Melissa Kelley of Bakersfield CA, who rescued a 76-year-old man attacked by two pit bulls.
Pattie Arismendez of Bakersfield CA, who noticed a toddler wandering in the street, scooped her up, and knocked on doors until she located the girl’s parents.
Robert Sweeny of Sacramento CA, who heard a mother screaming and gave CPR to her unresponsive infant, keeping her alive until help arrived.
