Remember Tax Day is April 17

Taxpayers in South Florida and across the country have two extra days to file income tax returns due to a District of Columbia holiday.  This year’s deadline is Tuesday, April 17.

To receive an April 17 postmark, the Postal Service reminds customers that 9 pm will be the last pick up from collection boxes at the Fort Lauderdale Processing and Distribution Center, 1900 W Oakland Park Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, and at the West Palm Beach Processing and Distribution Center, 3200 Summit Blvd, West Palm Beach.

The scheduled pick-up time is 9 pm for the collection box in front of the Miami Processing and Distribution Center at 2200 NW 72 Ave in Miami.  However, this location will make a final pick-up from the collection box at midnight on Tax Day.

Several South Florida Post Offices will be open after 5 pm on Tuesday, April 17.  These are regular (not extended) hours which are posted at usps.com
The Postal Service offers the following Tax Day tips:
-- Use Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation to confirm your return is delivered.
-- Affix the correct postage, especially since the item may weigh more than an ounce. Stamps may be purchased at the retail counter, per Post Office hours of operation.  Also, postage may be purchased at an Automated Postal Center (APC) in the lobby of many Post Offices.  Credit or debit card only for APC transactions.  For locations, go to usps.com, select “Locate a Post Office,” type your address, and select “Automated Postal Centers” from the drop menu.  Or follow these instructions and select “Alternate Locations to Buy Stamps” from the drop menu.
-- Due to heightened security, mail that bears only postage stamps and weighs more than 13 ounces must be taken by the customer to a retail service counter at a Post Office.
