Holiday Shopping Goes Mobile

Mailers are registering for the Holiday Mobile Shopping Promotion — the Postal Service’s next mail-mobile incentive program that takes place Nov. 7-21.
Mailers can register on the Business Customer Gateway. They also can be auto-enrolled by their mail service providers using electronic documentation.
Mobile shopping — from a smartphone or tablet — will be popular this holiday season because of the convenience and time savings for consumers. That’s good news for merchants, because mobile shopping is a 24-hour-day activity.
The Holiday Mobile Shopping Promotion provides a 2-percent postage discount for letters, cards and flats — including catalogs — that use mobile barcodes or other technologies to link customers with mobile-optimized shopping websites. The idea is to put coupons and promotional offers in the hands of customers in time for Cyber Week — the week after Thanksgiving — a peak time for online holiday sales.
As a best practice, the promotion requires that the customer’s entire experience be “mobile optimized.” This means that once mail recipients scan a barcode on the mailpiece or catalog, they’re taken to a site where they can easily use mobile devices to purchase a product.
