Hurricane Sandy: October 25 Update

The South Florida District Emergency Management Team continues to track Hurricane Sandy through National Hurricane Center Advisories.  Under the leadership of District Manager Jeffrey Becker, the EMT consists of senior postal managers and Postal Inspectors who meet regularly to review current weather conditions and to make operational decisions for the district.  Their priority is the safety and well being of all employees.
Hurricane Sandy is approaching the Central Bahamas as a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds at 105 mph.  Sandy is traveling north at 20 mph.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Florida East Coast from Ocean Reef to Flagler Beach, and Lake Okeechobee.  A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area.
A tropical storm watch is in effect from the Florida East Coast from north of Flagler Beach to Fernandina Beach, the Florida Upper Keys from Ocean Reef to Craig Key, and Florida Bay.  A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area.
Employees are encouraged to listen to local weather reports for updates on Hurricane Sandy.
At this time, all postal operations are normal throughout the South Florida District.  Employees are reminded to call the USPS National Employee Emergency Hotline for up-to-date information on work schedules and facility status.
