District Welcomes Miami OIC Kirkland

The South Florida District welcomes Stephen (Steve) L. Kirkland (right) as Officer In Charge, Miami, FL, Post Office. Prior to coming to South Florida, Kirkland served as acting Plant Manager, Manasota, FL, Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC).

As Officer In Charge, Kirkland is responsible for managing 2,097 employees in retail and delivery operations at 29 Post Offices, 2 carrier annexes, 11 Finance Units and 7 Postal Stores. Miami serves approximately 816,886 delivery points.
 
Kirkland began his career as a Part-Time Flexible (PTF) Letter Carrier in Gainesville, FL, in December 1984. Three years later, he joined the managerial ranks as Supervisor Delivery and Collections in Gainesville, FL.
                                           
During his career, Kirkland has been promoted to various Manager, Customer Services positions of increased responsibility and level. In 2004, he was promoted to EAS-22 Postmaster, St. Augustine, FL, and in 2008, was promoted to EAS-24 Postmaster, Panama City, FL. In 2012, he served as (EAS-26) Postmaster, Louisville, KY. Between 2015 and 2017, Kirkland was Manager, Post Office Operations (MPOO) EAS-23 in the Gulf Atlantic District and EAS-25 in the Gulf Atlantic District. He was promoted to EAS-26 Postmaster, Sarasota, FL, in 2017.
 
Past detail assignments have included Manager, Operations Programs Support (MOPS), North Florida District; and Plant Manager in Panama City, FL; Tallahassee, FL; and Savannah, GA.

He is Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Green Belt Certified and has achieved Bronze and Platinum IV certifications.
