Saluting Our Veterans

As you know, the U.S. Postal Service is one of the nation’s largest employers of veterans, second only to the U.S. Department of Defense. Our organization has more than 100,000 current or former service members in its workforce. The South Florida Postal Family is proud of more than 2,000 veterans who serve in various positions from Fort Pierce to Key West and all locations in between.

This year the South Florida District is on a mission to recognize and salute its veterans in a very special way.  The Learning Development and Diversity Team has accepted an assignment that involves the collection of photos and the documentation of military service. We will honor veterans and/or their coworkers who have served, or continue to serve, in the military. We also want to recognize family members in the Armed Forces. And if you are aware of an employee who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, please share that information as well.

You can help the district pay tribute to its veterans by submitting a photo --- preferably in military uniform or at a work location --- to Manager, Learning Development and Diversity Myriam Irizarry at myriam.b.irizarry@usps.gov. Digital photos must be no larger than two megabytes. Include a few sentences about the military branch and tour of duty. Deadline: Monday, October 28.

This Veterans Day will mark the 101st anniversary of the end of World War I, the milestone that established November 11 as the day set aside to honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This Veterans Day, let us recognize and thank our veterans and share their stories in various communications, ranging from the South Florida Postal Blog to Informed Facility platform. Then when you recognize a veteran in the workplace, take the opportunity to express your gratitude and say thanks.
