Here's How to Beat the Heat!

During summer months, employees may work in environments where they’re exposed to excessive heat. This exposure can lead to serious heat-related illnesses that occur when the body is no longer able to cool itself through sweating. By knowing the signs and symptoms associated with these illnesses and practicing preventative measures, you can reduce the risk of heat-related health problems.
Know the Symptoms:
-- Headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting.
-- Weakness and moist skin.
-- Mood changes such as irritability or confusion.
--Upset stomach, thirst, or vomiting.
Protect Yourself:
-- Drink plenty of fluids.
-- Maintain normal salt intake.
-- Wear light-colored clothing.
-- Avoid drinks with caffeine.
-- Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
The Postal Service is committed to ensuring that all employees work as safely as possible.
Remember the heat equation:
High Temperature + High Humidity + Physical Work = Potential Heat Illness
Beat the heat!
