Holiday App: An Augmented Reality

USPS is transforming its iconic blue collection boxes into animated holiday experiences through augmented reality (AR) technology.
Beginning this week, you can download the Postal Service’s AR app to your mobile device and use it to scan one of the 156,000 collection boxes across the nation.
When you do, you’ll see flashing holiday lights, dancing penguins and wrapped holiday packages. The visuals are followed by prompts to order free shipping boxes and stamps.
“Mobile technology is enhancing physical mail in some pretty remarkable ways,” said Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Nagisa Manabe.
“Augmented reality, QR codes and one-click buying are changing the way consumers interact with major brands. That’s why the Postal Service has launched a multi-channel advertising campaign this holiday to reach consumers of all ages.”
The Postal Service will add new features to the app so customers have different experiences throughout the holidays.
The app is part of the Postal Service’s ambitious holiday push, which also includes TV ads and an expanded delivery schedule for packages.
