Gomez Returns to South Florida as Inspector in Charge, Miami Division

Antonio J. Gómez was named Inspector in Charge of the Miami Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in May 2016. The Miami Division covers all of the state of Florida and part of southern Georgia.

Prior to his reassignment to the Miami Division, Inspector Gómez served as the Inspector in Charge of the Chicago Division from June 2013 to May 2016.  The Chicago Division covers the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, and part of Missouri. His duties were to oversee all operations  --- Child Exploitation, Dangerous Mail Investigations, Mail and Revenue Fraud, Major Crimes, Narcotics, and Workplace Violence, as well as the uniformed Postal Police Force.

Prior to his promotion to Inspector in Charge, Chicago Division, Inspector Gómez was the Assistant Inspector in Charge of the Miami Division from October 2007.  He oversaw all southern operations, which covered areas from Fort Pierce south to Key West.
                                                                                                   
Prior to his promotion to Assistant Inspector in Charge, Inspector Gómez was the Team Leader for the Miami International Mail Theft Team that covered the Caribbean, Central and South America.  Upon graduating from the Inspection Service’s academy, Inspector Gómez was assigned to the Mail Theft and Violent Crimes Team where he worked for six years before being transferred to the International Team.

In May 2005, Inspector Gomez was detailed to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service Headquarters Office  as the Acting Program Manager for Internal Crimes for 90 days. In January 2006, Inspector Gomez was detailed as Acting Assistant Inspector in Charge, Security, for another 90 days. In May 2010, he was detailed as Acting Inspector in Charge, Denver Division, and he has completed two Inspector in Charge details in the Miami Division---  in January of 2009 and again from October 2012 through April 2013. 

Before being hired by the Inspection Service, Inspector Gómez worked for the State of Florida, Attorney General’s Office, Medicaid Fraud Unit, investigating health care fraud.  He began his career with the State of Florida, Auditor General’s Office, investigating welfare fraud.

Inspector Gómez holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University, Miami, FL.
